A Series of Fortitudes is dedicated to the optimists, who through sheer force of will, propelled their vision into the world and changed history.
In 1953, after a long, hard, and dynamic career, Ernest Hemingway won the Pulitzer Prize for The Old Man and the Sea -- his final work. The novel, where an old man drags back his biggest catch, only to have it slowly eaten away to its skeleton by sharks trailing behind him, is perhaps a metaphor for Ernest's own optimistic life in retrospect.
